Welding Up a Sagging Gate
We cut out the old hinge plates, weld in new ones with a heavier gauge, and brace the frame to stop the sag. The gate swings true again.
Buda is a short drive east on Highway 277. We do a mix of residential gate work and custom fabrication for local homeowners. The terrain is similar to Dripping Springs, so we are used to the conditions.

Buda sits on the eastern edge of the Hill Country, where the limestone ridges give way to wider, flatter lots and newer subdivisions. The housing stock here is a mix of older ranch-style homes on acreage and modern tract houses on smaller plots, with a lot of the newer builds going up fast. The ground is rocky and clay-heavy, draining poorly after a hard rain, and the summer heat pushes metal to expand and shift. Gates and fences take a beating from the sun and the occasional flash flood, so the work here has to account for movement and rust where the steel meets the ground.
Our crew loads up at the shop and drives out to Buda, usually taking Highway 277 straight over. We arrive with a truck full of steel stock, a welder, grinders, and all the hand tools needed to cut and fit on site. Access is straightforward on most properties, though some of the older places have narrow driveways that we have to work around. We set up where we can, keep the mess contained with tarps and magnets, and sweep up every last bit of metal dust before we leave. Being this close to Dripping Springs means we can get there fast and stay on schedule without eating up travel time.

Buda's gates take a lot of sun and heavy use. We fix sagging hinges, replace rusted hinges, and weld up cracked frames on the spot.
Newer homes in Buda often want a custom look that matches the limestone and stucco. We build gates, brackets, and ornamental pieces to fit the house's style.
The clay-heavy ground here calls for deeper posts and corrosion-resistant hardware. We set steel posts in concrete to keep the fence straight through the wet season.
A lot of Buda properties have ranch equipment, trailers, and outbuildings that need on-site welding. We bring the welder and generator to wherever the break is.
We cut out the old hinge plates, weld in new ones with a heavier gauge, and brace the frame to stop the sag. The gate swings true again.
We measure the opening, then cut and weld the frame and pickets on site. We fit the hinges and latch, then hang the gate and test the swing.
We drive out with pipe, a welder, and a post hole digger. We cut out the damaged section, set a new post, and weld the rails back tight.
The older homes around Main Street and the historic district have wrought-iron gates and railings that need restoration. We match the existing scrollwork and repair rusted joints in place.
The newer subdivisions off 277 have uniform lots with HOA rules. We install gates and fences that meet the covenants while keeping the look clean and the metal durable.
East of town, the properties open up into pasture and brush. We do heavy-duty ranch gates, cattle guards, and structural welding on equipment and outbuildings.
For new fence and gate installations in the city limits, you need a building permit from the City of Buda's Development Services Department. Check with them before you start.
Many subdivisions in Buda have architectural review committees that require approval for gate and fence styles. Get that sign-off before we schedule the work.

“Jerry replaced/repaired our driveway access 14' electric-opened farm gate. He responded to my initial inquiry right away, and did the job within a day which helped us out a lot. From start to finish, communication was great, both text and speaking over the phone. He sourced the new gate and all other materials for the job. He showed up on time, did the work well, actually improved the design of our gate, and cleaned up when he was done. Price was reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend him.”
“I highly recommend hiring Walker welding for all welding services. My front gate broke off the hinges completely. I called Jerry and the day of him and his wife came by to check out the gate. He quickly ordered new hinges and as soon as they came in, he was back at my house within 48 hours installing the hinges perfectly and leveling my gate better than before! Jerry did a great job and the cost was very reasonable.”
“Walker Welding did a fantastic job on the pool fence, step rail and gate for our unusual pila pool. The work was fast, super well done, and fairly priced. What nice people too. Highly recommend.”
“We called him as a result of a referral from a friend. Jerry came out to look at what we needed to install a small privacy gate at our house. He provided us some suggestions as to the proper location and gave us an honest time frame as to when he would be able to complete the project. He was spot on and his fee was extremely reasonable. His work is excellent.”
“Truly a class act. Not only the best, most trustworthy welder in town, but also one of the best contractors I've ever come across. We had an unusual request for Jerry to install a metal ramp on our steep driveway. Jerry came by to take a look at the driveway and was incredibly proactive in suggesting the most effective and safest option. Every part of the process was absolutely flawless.”
